  • New Work LEVIATHAN

    New Work LEVIATHAN

    James Wilton Dance are pleased to announce their new full evening work LEVIATHAN. The work, based on Herman Melville’s seminal novel Moby Dick, has been commissioned by Blackpool Grand, Barnsley Civic, The Gulbenkian Theatre, Ocean City Festival, The Barbican Theatre, Plymouth University, Plymouth Culture, The Place and Swindon Dance. It is supported by grants from Arts Council England Grants for the Arts and the BBC Performing Arts Fund.

    Featuring a cast of 7, Wilton’s trademark blend of athletic dance, martial arts, capoeira and partner-work, LEVIATHAN will have you on the edge of your seat and gasping for air, under the sheer ferocity of movement; all accompanied by a powerful electro-rock soundtrack by Lunatic Soul. Premiering at The House, Plymouth on the 21st September 2016 as part of Ocean City Festival before completing a 22 date tour in Autumn 2016. The work will then continue touring into 2017 and beyond!

  • ' Drift' is off to China

    James Wilton is pleased to announce that his student choreography Drift is currently being re-worked on students at the London Contemporary Dance School, to be taken to China for performance at The Beijing Dance Academy’s 60th celebration gala. 

    James created Drift during his second year of training at LCDS. 

    Drift has also recently been staged on Scottish Dance Theatre ( 2010-2014) and Ballet Hagen, Germany ( 2013).

     

  • Arts Council Funding

    James Wilton Dance are delighted to announce that they have successfully received Arts Council funding to support the creation and touring of James Wilton's latest work " Last Man Standing". The new full length work is also being commissioned by Dance City, where it will premiere on January 25th before touring throughout 2014.

  • 2013 news so far

    2013 has been a busy year so far for James Wilton Dance. Here is a brief summary of what we have been up to.

    Creation of the Rite of Spring for the dance company of Opera Graz. Watch a trailer here

    Creation of a new outdoor work in Rennes, France as part of a commission from Dansce Dialogues

    Performances of Cave at AGITATO festival in Rennes, France and Tanzraume Festival in Hagen, Germany.

    Creation and 16 performances of an outdoor work in a disused slate quarry in Wadebridge, Cornwall as part of SALT festival. More details can be found here:

    The work was also performed at Bristol Harbour Festival.

    As well as this James has re-worked Drift for Ballet Hagen in Germany and created a work for Verve13.

    For the remainder of the year James will be working on his first full evening work titled Last Man Standing using a commission from Dance City. The work will be touring throughout 2014 after premiering at Dance City on January 25th. Save the date!
